SOMMARSTUGA ESCAPE

Joining photographer Julia Baxas on her whimsical holiday escape to a Swedish summerhouse, giving us an insight into her creative process. Often painted red and white, these quaint wooden houses perfectly reflect the vibrancy of the iconic Falcon Pillarbox red.

Can you introduce us to your work?

I’m a French photographer and food stylist with over a decade of experience, starting in 2009. My approach is minimalist, focusing on highlighting the essence of the subject with natural light to create an authentic and inviting atmosphere. I enjoy working with neutral tones, though I also appreciate the vibrancy of Falcon's colorful dishes, which allow me to play with contrasts.

What are your biggest creative inspirations?

Inspiration comes from everywhere, but I find it most in nature and the beautiful places I encounter during my travels. Whether it’s a visually stunning dish in a restaurant, the harmonious colors of an interior design, or the textures and hues of the natural world, these experiences deeply influence my work.

What's your favorite Falcon product and why?

It’s hard to pick just one, as I love them all! However, the 3-pint jug is a favorite because of its versatility—I can use it to arrange flowers or serve water at the table.

What do you love most about Falcon in and around your kitchen?

I’m drawn to the minimalist, delicate, and elegant design of Falcon products. They complement so many elements in my kitchen and on the table, blending seamlessly with different styles.

Is there a specific dish that you might personally make using any of our Falcon products?

I love to prepare roasted vegetables, which I cook and serve in the Falcon serving tray—it’s a perfect combination of functionality and style.

What do you love most about your hometown Bordeaux in the Autumn?

Autumn in Bordeaux is magical. I adore the vibrant colors in parks like Jardin Public and Parc Bordelais, and the golden hour light that bathes the city while I’m cycling around.

Are there any local companies you'd like to recommend? Where do you usually eat, drink, and source ingredients in your local area?

Absolutely! I’m passionate about sharing my favorite spots in Bordeaux and beyond.

For fresh, locally sourced vegetables, I shop at La Recharge, a small grocery store committed to local products.

I also love the smoked fish from my friend Benedicte, who sources wild fish sustainably. Her products are available in Bordeaux, but the smoking room is located on Bassin d'Arcachon.

Although I don’t eat much meat, when I do, I purchase it from Bouche, which offers the best local, farm-sourced meats.

For dining, Samos Greek Food is a hidden gem, offering delicious, seasonal Greek dishes.

And Café Eriu is another favorite—a coffee shop with an Irish twist that serves food I absolutely adore.

I could go on and on, but I’ll stop here—though I’d love to create a full food city guide for Bordeaux! ;)
